Former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh arrested over casteist remarks: Released later over bail

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested earlier following a casteist remark made by him in an Instagram live video attacking fellow cricketer and leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Unintentional remarks

Former Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested and released on bail by the Haryana police earlier on October 17th, following a casteist remark believed to attack another cricketer, Yuzendra Chahal in one of Yuvraj’s Instagram live videos. The cricketer later apologised over his ‘unintentional remarks’.

While speaking about the arrest, DSP Vinod Shankar said , “Yuvraj Singh came to Hansi on Saturday, and we made a formal arrest. He was released on bail bond after a few hours.”

Complaint filed by a Dalit activist in February 2021

The arrest was made following the complaint filed by a Dalit activist in February 2021 demanding his arrest and registration of a case under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. An FIR was filed based on the complaint.

Yuvraj Singh expressed regret

Following all this, Yuvraj Singh expressed regret if he had hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings unintentionally. He also emphasized that his love for India and the people is eternal. His statement read, “I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted.”

Yuvraj was later released on bail after a few hours and was sent home.
