With the vaccination drive going on full flow all over the nation, numerous complaints rose to the surface over the unavailability and the overpricing of dosages. The issue skyrocketed when the government opened the drive for the youth. And now the government has announced that it will take full control over the vaccination drive and will issue free vaccines all over the country.

Free vaccines for all above 18

Prime minister Narendra Modi earlier announced that all citizens aged above 18 will get free vaccines from June 21st and the respective vaccine supplies for each state will be distributed at the earliest. The center has also decided to buy 75 percent of jabs from vaccine makers, including 25 percent of the state quota, and give it for free to state governments, the prime minister said in an address to the nation.

He also added that the government hospitals can resume their services regularly and private sector hospitals can continue to procure 25 per cent of vaccines, but their service charge would be capped at Rs 150 per dose over fixed price of the vaccine.

Relaxations to lockdown

This announcement has been made after major states in the country have declared relaxations towards lockdown and in this situation, the vaccine might be a protective shield against COVID -19. He also advised the citizens to follow precaution though there are relaxations declared. Modi said research is continuing on a nasal spray vaccine which, if successful, can significantly boost India’s vaccination drive.

In India’s battle against COVID, the people have been under a great deal of misery with loss of life and property. And the vaccination will be the only safety net that we can rely on until everything gets under control.
