On the same day that the state government issued a new order permitting gyms and beauty parlours to function at 50% capacity, it also clarified the situation by declaring that schools will stay closed for physical education programmes until February 15.

The government shut down gyms, beauty parlours, spas, and swimming pools on Saturday as part of its latest set of restrictions in response to the escalating number of Covid cases in the state. Owners of gyms and beauty salons, on the other hand, were enraged, and protests were planned for Monday.

On Sunday, the government issued a new decree that made complete vaccination required for gym and beauty parlour patrons. They will also be required to wear masks when using the facilities. “People go to the gym to stay in shape and improve their stamina, strength, and lung capacity.

We must exercise and enhance our stamina if we want to defeat Covid. I believe that common sense has won out. We will guarantee that only fully vaccinated persons enter the gym and that masks are used,” said Jeevan Landge, the owner of a gym in Pimpri-Chinchwad. “Cardio and strength training is the need of the hour,” said Vaibhav Patil, a gym trainer. Exercise or gym training should not be prohibited under any circumstances.”

Meanwhile, some Pune district school principals expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s recent decree. “We were only notified a few days ago that classes 9 and 10 will be permitted. The most recent decree states that schools will be closed. “Standards 9 and 10 are not mentioned in the sequence,” a school principal remarked.

“The directive is extremely explicit,” said Aseem Gupta, Principal Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation. In the state, all classes, including standard 9 and 10, will be closed. Colleges will be closed as well. ‘Other activities,’ according to the decree, will be permitted. Practicals and submissions for courses 10 and 12 are examples of additional activities.”
