For its web users, Meta’s instant messaging programme WhatsApp has launched a new open-source web plugin called Code Verify.

According to the company’s official announcement on its blog, the plugin would check the legitimacy of the WhatsApp Web code that is served to the browser. This addon will ensure that the WhatsApp Web code remains unchanged, ensuring secure web experiences.

According to WhatsApp’s official blog, Code Check builds on the concept of subresource integrity, a security feature that allows web browsers to verify that the resources they receive have not been tampered with. This only applies to single files, whereas Code Verify examines the entire webpage’s resources. This will improve the process’s credibility. Code Verify, for example, has a partnership with Cloudflare, which will operate as a trustworthy third party.

How to Verify a WhatsApp Code

To utilise WhatsApp Code Verify, go to Meta Open Source and download the web extension for Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. It ensures that neither Meta nor WhatsApp will be aware if the Code Verify extension has been downloaded. It can’t send Cloudflare SMS or chats between two people.

When you access WhatsApp Web after installing the extension on your browser, it will instantly start functioning. The browser’s toolbar will display the results to users. If WhatsApp Web Code is fully validated, it means you need to refresh your page or Code Verify has conflicted with another browser extension. If you see a red icon, there is a chance that the code you are being delivered has a security flaw.

You might see one of the three possible messages in the last case. Network loss, for example, implies that if the network is down, the page cannot be confirmed. On the extension, there is a question mark within an orange circle. The other notification may indicate that you are in danger. If one or more of your extensions interfere with page verification, this message will show. Within the orange symbol on the extension, you’ll notice a question mark.

Finally, the verification was not possible. A notification of error will show. The plugin will detect if the code you’re using to run WhatsApp Web is different from what other people are using. In this situation, the icon will turn red and an exclamation mark will appear.
