WHO chief scientist warns that the current variant will spread rapidly and could breach the vaccine effect

The currently existing COVID variant B.1.617 might breach the vaccine effect and will spread more rapidly, says WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan.

Breach the safety net

Sowmya Swaminathan, Cheif scientist from WHO has warned that all the hardships created by the COVID strain in India might transform into a more virulent form and could even breach the safety walls the vaccine gives us. The scientist made this clear in an interview where she was explaining the future probabilities of the strain on Sunday (May 9th)

The new mutated COVID virus has been a serious matter of concern in India and the UK following a huge fatality rate recorded in both the countries and the serious damage it has create over the hearts of the people. Though the vaccination is established in the countries, there has been insufficient supplies and a little hesitation in India, which has caused a more serious consern for the government.

Just 2% vaccinated

At this juncture, WHO Chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan has stated that it might take several months to vaccinate at least 70 -80% of the entire 1.3 billion population of India. And she also stated that only 2% have been vaccinated for now and the government should cling to the process of maintaining social distances and vast testing until they get a balanced state.

Social gatherings and complacency in minds

She added that the current wave is even self-generated as the country initially had control but later it was self spoilt over enormous social gatherings in the country. And also now as the virus is in a totally comfortable position in the country, it can very well mutate further causing a bit more havoc, she said.

Her points gain more importance as she finished by saying the issue might turn to a world concern when the virus mutates further and make almost every vaccine in the world meaningless.
